Halloween

So my brother, Gianni, and his girlfriend, Brooke, wanted to do a door decorating contest for Halloween and well...I'm going to be honest here. I think they kicked my butt because theirs looked awesome. BUT I did have a lot of fun with it and isn't that the point? :) Here are some pictures of the door:

So there was some store-bought stuff as you can see with the creepy dead guys hanging from the tree and the webbing but I did make some of it myself which I was kind of proud of. Below are my brother's and his girlfriend's gravestones. Clever, no?

I found this little tree in Michael's that actually came in two pieces, meant to be put together to make a 3D tree. Instead I kept it flat and cut out a big yellow moon and glued that behind it and made some little pumpkins to place at the bottom. And then I hung the little dead guys from it.

Now what I was really proud of were my magnetic spiders. (I put magnets on the back of the tree and gravestones as well. It made for REALLY easy cleanup without ruining any paint on the door!) For the spiders I just bought a thing of spider rings, popped off the ring part, and glued magnets to them.

Aren't they creepy?

The magnet spiders held up the webbing pretty well, though I wish I had had more spiders to put in the center of the webbing. Overall it was a fun project! I also need to give credit to James for helping me pick out stuff for the door (those creepy dead guys were a surprise gift for me; yes I am a little macabre). He also helped a lot with the actual placement of everything on the door.

I also finally framed my grandmother's rose cross stitch and I think it turned out great!

Finished Project and Halloween Fun

Ok sooo...yes. I know. It has been a long time since an update. But now that I have finished my brutal nursing program, I can finally get back to my fun projects and crafts. First I had to finish the project I did for my grandmother. And finally after working on it non-stop for about a week I finished it:
Part of what took so long is that the finished piece is a combination of cross stitch, half stitch, satin stitch, back stitch and french knots. Here is a close-up:

Also french knots are the bane of my existence. I had to practice a whole bunch before I actually did it on my project, and even then they continued to be inconsistent sizes. But I actually kind of liked that they turned out different sizes.
My practice french knots

It still needs to be framed before I send it off to my grandmother but I can at least start working on other things now. Also, I have started Halloween decorations which I will create another post about (DIY spider magnets...very fun!). But I wanted to show off the pumpkins that James and I carved last night. James's is on the left and mine is on the right. I think they turned out fantastic and James's practically looks like it's on fire!

Happy Halloween Muahahahahaha
